Basic Sewing for Kids

4 session class with Jenny Hiett

Class meets June 18, 19, 20, and 21 from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

Designed for students age 8 to 14, this series of classes will teach your child correct sewing techniques from the beginning. Completing the "My Seams and Samples Workbook" enables kids to become independent and confident sewers. These skills will be reinforced through age appropriate projects: a pillow, drawstring bag, and a book bag.

The class fee of $133.50 includes $100 for the teacher's fee and workbook plus a $33.50 kit fee for fabrics and notions used for the workbook and three projects.

Marjory is back with another wonderful class in the Coming Up Roses Series.

Take your sewing and embroidery to next level with the techniques you will learn in this class.

Marjory will teach you:

how to create dimensional free-standing flowers and cut them out cleanly with a stencil cutting tool,

how to do bobbin work in sewing mode,

how to use Texture Magic to add texture to your fabrics and the dimensional flowers,

and how to ruche fabric strips.

CQ Sew Creative Software Club
Cutwork Zen Flower

1 session class with Carolyn

Class meets Monday, June 3, from 1:00 to 4:00

Premier+2 software students will be creating a lovely flower using a variety of tools in the Create module.

Techniques include creating applique areas with overlayed embroidery stitches, adding a command for cutwork needles, digitizing Richelieu Bars, tapering starting and end points for satin lines, adding decorative motifs, using Encore to multiply the design, and using the Modify module to color sort and merge. There is also emphasis on creating this design without jump stitches.

Another excellent lesson created by Phil Carlton for Premier+2 Ultra customers.

5 session class with Carolyn

Class meets Wednesdays January 30, February 27, March 20, April 24, and May 29 from 10:30 to 2:30.

Join us for HoopSisters' 2019 Embroidery Block of the Month. Fleur de Lis is a quilt that is made with your embroidery machine. You will be piecing, appliqueing, and quilting in the hoop.

The size of the quilt depends on the size hoop you use and whether or not you choose to do the optional border blocks. Block sizes are 5”, 6”, 7”, 8”, or 9”. So, you can make a wallhanging size to king-size quilt.

The class fee is $75.00. There is an additional fee of $35.00 per month for the embroidery designs.

You can print out a basic supply list here, but you will need to come into the store for the fabric supply list. You'll want to get a brief explanation of how it all works and how to figure out how much fabric to purchase for your project.

Jelly Roll Rug Class

Class meets Monday, June 10 from 10:30 to Noon and Monday, June 17 from 10:30 to 1:30.

Learn how to turn a jelly roll and batting strips into a rug for your home.

In the first class, Janet will show you how to create the strips. In the second class, you will learn how to sew the strips into a rug. One 40-strip jelly roll makes an oval rug measuring about 30" x 44". Don't worry about using it, because you can throw it in the washer!

Kimberbell Retreat

5 day retreat meeting Monday through Friday, July 15 - 19, from 10:30 to 4:30.

Join us for five days of fun working on a Kimberbell machine embroidery quilt. Students can choose Jingle All the Way, Broomhilda's Bakery, Hello Sunshine, or Make Yourself at Home while our supply of kits are still in stock.

The event fee includes instruction and lunch on us on Friday, July 19th. BYOL, Bring your own lunch Monday - Thursday, or visit one of our local restaurants.

Students will need to purchase the book of embroidery designs and the kit from Cottage Quilts to attend this class. Some projects also have an embellishment kit.

Kimberbell designs include so many different techniques: working with mylar, glitter vinyl, free standing embellishments, fringe embroidery, chenille embroidery, and more. It's the perfect way to learn your embroidery machine and have fun at the same time.

All brands are welcome to attend this class.

Class meets Wednesday, June 26, from 10:30 to 3:30.

Learn how to create your own embroidery designs with the My Design Center feature found on Brother Dream, Dream 2, and Luminaire machines.

We will be using both the line and region tools to create a pretty embroidery design. Class time includes stitch-out time and a demo on how to use a quilt-as-you-go technique to turn your block into a tablerunner or quilt.

8 session class with Carolyn

Class meets Tuesdays, April 2, 9, 23, 30, and May 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 10:30 to 1:30.

Make Yourself at Home is a delightful quilt filled with fun techniques: chenille, fringe flowers, glitter vinyl, dimensional ribbon flowers, and more!

We'll be working in sections so that our quilt will be nearly complete by week 8.

Students must be comfortable using a rotary cutter and sewing scant 1/4" seams. If you are new to machine embroidery this will be the perfect class for you! And, of course, it will be fun for everyone.

The fabric kit, embellishment kit, and book with embroidery designs must be purchased from Cottage Quilts. The fabric kit including all the fabrics you need for the quilt top and binding is $86.00. The Kimberbell Embellishment kit is $35.00. The Make Yourself at Home book is $79.99. The total for all three is about $201.00.

1 day event on Wednesday, June 5, from 9:00am to 4:00pm

The instructor is an expert from Sew Steady!

We're so excited to be adding another Sew Steady/Westalee Ruler event to our schedule.

Sew Steady will be sending an educator to teach you all you need to know about Ruler Work in a stress-free party atmosphere. You will have fun learning this free motion quilting technique and definitely will have fun with the giveaways throughout the day!

Students will have hands-on sewing time and start a tablerunner or the Continuum quilt. Cottage Quilts will be offering follow-up classes for students who will be working on the Continuum quilt. It's always more fun to work in a group!

This event class is for students who have taken a basic ruler work class and understand how to set up their machine with the special ruler foot, prepare the templates, and use the basic arc template in free-motion quilting. If you do not have this basic knowledge or need a refresher, you are invited to sign up for our Basic Ruler Work class meeting Friday, May 24, from 10:30 to 1:30. With this class you will learn all you need to know to attend our Kick Off Party Event in June. (Hurry to sign up for the Ruler Work Basics class, it is filling up quickly!)
