Basic Sewing for Kids

4 session class with Jenny Hiett

Class meets June 18, 19, 20, and 21 from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

Designed for students age 8 to 14, this series of classes will teach your child correct sewing techniques from the beginning. Completing the "My Seams and Samples Workbook" enables kids to become independent and confident sewers. These skills will be reinforced through age appropriate projects: a pillow, drawstring bag, and a book bag.

The class fee of $133.50 includes $100 for the teacher's fee and workbook plus a $33.50 kit fee for fabrics and notions used for the workbook and three projects.

5 session class with Carolyn

Class meets Wednesdays January 30, February 27, March 20, April 24, and May 29 from 10:30 to 2:30.

Join us for HoopSisters' 2019 Embroidery Block of the Month. Fleur de Lis is a quilt that is made with your embroidery machine. You will be piecing, appliqueing, and quilting in the hoop.

The size of the quilt depends on the size hoop you use and whether or not you choose to do the optional border blocks. Block sizes are 5”, 6”, 7”, 8”, or 9”. So, you can make a wallhanging size to king-size quilt.

The class fee is $75.00. There is an additional fee of $35.00 per month for the embroidery designs.

You can print out a basic supply list here, but you will need to come into the store for the fabric supply list. You'll want to get a brief explanation of how it all works and how to figure out how much fabric to purchase for your project.

Kimberbell Retreat

5 day retreat meeting Monday through Friday, July 15 - 19, from 10:30 to 4:30.

Join us for five days of fun working on a Kimberbell machine embroidery quilt. Students can choose Jingle All the Way, Broomhilda's Bakery, Hello Sunshine, or Make Yourself at Home while our supply of kits are still in stock.

The event fee includes instruction and lunch on us on Friday, July 19th. BYOL, Bring your own lunch Monday - Thursday, or visit one of our local restaurants.

Students will need to purchase the book of embroidery designs and the kit from Cottage Quilts to attend this class. Some projects also have an embellishment kit.

Kimberbell designs include so many different techniques: working with mylar, glitter vinyl, free standing embellishments, fringe embroidery, chenille embroidery, and more. It's the perfect way to learn your embroidery machine and have fun at the same time.

Let's Play with the Designer
Brilliance 80

This event is on Wednesday, May 1st from 9:00 to 4:30. Doors open at 8:30 and students should be seated and ready to start playing at 9:00.

Spend the day with educator Carrie Philpott creating two fun projects with Viking's Designer Brilliance 80 sewing and embroidery machine. You'll learn how to use the exclusive built-in dimensional applique and sequin stitches in both embroidery and sewing modes.

Projects include an in-the-hoop Scissor Holder and a Travel Reading Pillow.

The event fee of $29.99 includes lunch, a free thank-you gift from Viking, and a kit with everything you need to complete the projects. Cottage Quilts will provide the machines and any sewing notions for you to use in class.

A little bit about Carrie:

Carrie simply loves to sew! She started designing and making her entire wardrobe at 14 years old. This passion has extended into an International journey that has embrace every aspect of the textile and garment industry. From 1998-2004, Carrie owned and managed Main Street Sewing and Vacuum in Vancouver, WA. This expanded her love of sewing in the Embroidery, Digitizing, Crafting, Heirloom and Quilting arenas. She has received certification and training from Sue Hausman, Martha Pullen, Alex Anderson and Connie Crawford.

An event led by Carrie will infuse you with inspiration and motivation to expand your sewing, quilting, embroidering love and skills.

Make Yourself at Home Class

8 session class with Carolyn

Class meets Tuesdays, April 2, 9, 23, 30, and May 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 10:30 to 1:30.

Make Yourself at Home is a delightful quilt filled with fun techniques: chenille, fringe flowers, glitter vinyl, dimensional ribbon flowers, and more!

We'll be working in sections so that our quilt will be nearly complete by week 8.

Students must be comfortable using a rotary cutter and sewing scant 1/4" seams. If you are new to machine embroidery this will be the perfect class for you! And, of course, it will be fun for everyone.

The fabric kit, embellishment kit, and book with embroidery designs must be purchased from Cottage Quilts. The fabric kit including all the fabrics you need for the quilt top and binding is $86.00. The Kimberbell Embellishment kit is $35.00. The Make Yourself at Home book is $79.99. The total for all three is about $201.00.

Lesson 1, Part 2

This class is for all levels of Premier+2 Embroidery software: Premier+2 Free and above.

Class meets Monday, May 6, from 10:30 to Noon.

We're continuing with the basics with this lesson. Students will learn how to:

Select a hoop, insert a design, and move it.

We'll play with rotate, mirror side-to-side and top-to-bottom, and change thread colors.

Then, we'll insert another design and learn how to copy, duplicate, paste, cut, and delete.

We'll discuss the Zoom Toolbar, Select Tools, Layout Tools, the View Tab, and the Help Tab.

And, how to save your design, export it for embroidery, plus how to send the design to mySewnet.

Whether you are new to Premier+ 2 or a seasoned user, you won't want to miss this class.

This class is for students who would like to attend our Quilt Class in a Bag Party in June and do not have experience using a ruler foot and templates. Or, if it's been awhile since you used your templates, you may want to take this class, too, to brush up on your ruler work skills.

We will be using the basic ruler foot package in this class. Topics covered include:

How to put on the foot and set up your machine for ruler work

How to prepare fabric

Basic use of the 12" arc ruler and spacer that was included in your package.

Techniques Workshop

1 session workshop on May 3 with WonderFil Threaducator Jerrine Kirsch.

Choose the morning session meeting 9:00 to Noon, or the afternoon session meeting 1:30 to 4:30

With the guidance of an expert educator, you will learn tips and tricks on how to make 80 weight polyester DecoBob and 30 weight variegated rayon Mirage run beautifully in your machines.

The technique workshop will cover:

Piecing a block on straight or curved edges,

paper piecing using superfine thread, and

playing around with decorative stitches using variegated thread to enhance your projects.

You don't need a fancy machine to attend this class. Bring a sewing machine that has at least a few decorative stitches.

Attendees will receive a free kit that includes DecoBob and Mirage threads, DecoBob bobbins, and Wonderguards.
